Focussing on an independant perspective.

Thank you so much to those of you who joined us at our third Scunthorpe Place Lab on Friday 20 June 2025.

We loved welcoming you to the Attis Arena UCNL and hope you left feeling inspired and energised by the pride in our town and commitment to action to make it even better.

The ambition for the third PlaceLAB was to bring independent perspectives together, from the Blavatnik School and key voices from across North Lincolnshire, to accelerate thinking and relationship building around a vital priority – how do we create more, good-quality jobs locally?

While there was positive local news circulating at the time of this PlaceLAB- around British Steel and the government rightly recognising the Scunthorpe site as of national importance – there was a huge push to harness this optimism as a springboard to attract even more good-quality, well-paid jobs to our area.

As part of the event, renowned economist Sir Paul Collier discussed his latest book 'Left Behind', drawing on his long experience working in countries around the world as well as his personal experience growing up in Sheffield, and reflections for Scunthorpe.

PLACELAB3

a packed morning of making connections and exploring the future!
